An American writes to the FT – waterway reference added

A letter to the Financial Times ends: “The rise of the vested interests of the internal combustion engine … gave us the clogged highways and eroding infrastructures we have today. . . Even a … railroad is far more efficient in moving goods and people than the 18-wheelers and automobiles of today” and – adds this editor – many waterways can move goods and people more efficiently than the railways of today.
